{"id":1331,"date":"2021-06-08T17:31:34","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T17:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homesweethomeowner.com\/?p=1331"},"modified":"2021-07-11T17:42:57","modified_gmt":"2021-07-11T17:42:57","slug":"organizing-under-your-sinks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homesweethomeowner.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/08\/organizing-under-your-sinks\/","title":{"rendered":"Organizing Under Your Sinks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Usually, we shove anything and everything under the sinks of our homes without much regard and throw the doors shut hoping it disappears or somehow makes friends with other bottles and things under there.\u00a0 If you open any under-sink cabinet in your home, chances are it\u2019s a chaotic mess of unknown territories.\u00a0 Take back you under cabinets and gain back some sanity by following along to organize your way to calm and collected instead of chaos and madness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Monthly Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The first thing to do when organizing anything is making sure you are spending the time on things you actually use.\u00a0 If you have a bunch of crap that never gets touched, why are you wasting the time and precious storage space for these items.\u00a0 The easiest way to see what you are using versus what is taking up unnecessary room is to pick a month-long period of time where everything you use as you use it in that month gets a sticker.\u00a0 At the end of the month, if there are items without a sticker on it, it either gets tossed or finds a new place to live.\u00a0 Even if there are items you don\u2019t use regularly \u2013 certain pain relievers, eye drops, etc., they can just find a new place to live that doesn\u2019t need the convenience of a spot under your sink ready at arm\u2019s length.\u00a0 This space is for convenience, so if it\u2019s not something you use frequently and quickly, say goodbye.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Expiration Dates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This is also a great test in conjunction with the monthly test.\u00a0 If a product is expired, it immediately gets used or thrown away.\u00a0 Have an idea of what is coming up on expiration dates \u2013 especially makeup you\u2019ve been hoarding for a while.\u00a0 This is a hard and fast rule that will make your organizing easier.\u00a0 Use it or lose it is the name of the game.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Bin It<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Invest in a few small bins or containers of your choosing to help contain small items or things that tend to get knocked over easily.\u00a0 This is where you can get creative trying to figure out your organization style.\u00a0 You can organize by type or product, how you use it, by color, or anything else you can think of.\u00a0 The most important thing to remember is to have it work for you and make things easier, not harder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Commit to the System<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have a system in place, never just throw any random item under a sink.\u00a0 It either has a home down under, or you find another way to store it.\u00a0 Once you throw one item under there willy nilly, it\u2019s like a row of dominos crashing down.\u00a0 It\u2019s a slippery slope if you allow it to get out of hand, so commit to the process and system and you can\u2019t go wrong.\u00a0 You can also agree to do a monthly or bi-monthly maintenance of everything to check expiration dates and tidy up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Getting organized under your cabinets doesn\u2019t have to be a chore or dreaded event.\u00a0 Work towards making your life easier and it\u2019ll be smooth sailing.\u00a0 Keep everything neat and organized and your life will follow in the process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Usually, we shove anything and everything under the sinks of our homes without much regard and throw the doors shut hoping it disappears or somehow makes friends with other bottles and things under there.\u00a0 If you open any under-sink cabinet in your home, chances are it\u2019s a chaotic mess of unknown territories.\u00a0 Take back you&hellip;
